July 3-9, 2025: Mario and Milo's visit (part 2): Road trip to Flagstaff Arizona with the Dunlap's!

We were invited to join the Dunlap's for a road trip to Flagstaff Arizona for the 4th of July weekend! We were going to rent a large house in Bellemont AZ along with Seb's sister Sethrina and her family who were driving up from Las Vegas NV.

Thursday evening, July 3rd: A very disappointing dinner at a truck stop McDonald's with Mario, Milo, the Dunlap's, and the Stoddard's. Better choices were further away, and it was a late meal. The younger kids were pretty tired from the 5-hour drive.

Friday, July 4th: Our sweet boys, Milo and Mario at the lower part of Lake Mary, where we spent a "lake day" together. The guys grilled hot dogs and ribeye steaks, and corn on the cob. Hudson cut up watermelon, and we had chips and drinks for the gang. The younger kids explored the area; and the older kids went kayaking along with the adults. They loved their experience and time on the lake!

We took the Dunlap girls in our Jeep while the Dunlap's took Mario and Milo in their Honda Pilot with their boys

We stopped at a Farmer's Market arts and crafts fair in Flagstaff that was beautiful and amazing. We also ate lunch while we were there.

We stopped at the Visitor's Center and hiked in Walnut Canyon National Park before heading home

Monday, July 7th: The Dunlap's met us for lunch at Dion's Pizza. It was Mario and Milo's first time eating there!

Later that night, I had Hudson and Beau stay overnight at our house so they could have more time with their Utah cousins. They played pickleball and basketball outside, then video games in the clubhouse. On Tuesday they slept in, played some more, and we watched "The Impossible" together in our living room. It's a true story about the tsunami in Thailand and a family's struggle to find each other after the disaster.

Time for some basketball play by play!

Wednesday, July 9th: I took the boys to Catopia Cat Cafe for some cat petting therapy. I could smell the cats as soon as we walked in, which was a turn off, and there were too many other people there with the cats. But the biggest disappointment was that we weren't allowed to pick up or hold the cats unless the cats jumped up on our laps--such a bummer! Hudson was especially discouraged that he couldn't pick up or hold the cats. The whole time we were there, I kept thinking how much the girls would love that place--especially Sofia.

The cat cafe is all about playing with the kittens and making money to care for them and to hopefully get them adopted. They charge over $12 per person for admittance. Trying to get our money's worth of cat play didn't work there because half the cats were sleeping or resting and didn't really want to be bothered. There was one little gray cat who was very playful though, and the boys tried to be good sports about the whole thing. We all started to feel allergies coming on, so we didn't stay long.

Look how sleepy Hudson seems to be!

Most of the cats were either sleeping or grooming themselves!

We went to Wing Stop afterwards for a sweet and salty lunch

I already miss these beautiful, sweet grandsons!!!
