We were excited when Mike got the opportunity to work with Lawrence Livermore Labs in N. California, because it was the perfect chance to visit our kids in Palo Alto--not far from San Francisco. We rented a car and drove to the Hotel Aria in Palo Alto. The room was old and a bit smelly, but the bed was comfortable. It was Mike's birthday, and we were happy to spend it with Jared and Jenny's family.

Our first Palo Alto trip was too short, but we were glad we could spend a few days with Jared and Jenny and the boys. The kids treated us to dinner at the IKEA cafeteria our first evening, and we had fun looking through the store while Mario and Milo played in the children's play area. Then we went out for gourmet ice cream in downtown Palo Alto.
We did a little shopping, played games at the dining room table, and tucked the boys into bed at night. I made dinner the second and third days, and the family had enough left overs for the rest of the week/weekend. I was glad we could come back and visit in early November for Mario's baptism!
