Winter 2016: A Painful Fall for Celestine, and Eye Surgery for Mike!

Adorable winter photos of Elise and Tyler Hobbs! Elise is almost 2 in these photos, and Tyler is 4. They are the sweetest siblings, and I am blessed to be their grandma.

On Thursday, January 28th at 6:30pm, I tripped and fell over this yellow concrete parking structure as I was running down the sidewalk and across the parking lot to reach my Jeep. Picture the scene at night in the dark! I didn't know what happened as I lay breathless on the asphalt, and my hands and knees were throbbing with pain. Why was that parking structure placed on the opposite end of a parking space, where anyone could get hurt?

That yellow concrete parking structure was a serious hazard, especially at night
when it was not visible! I took these photos the day after the accident.
My left knee was badly bruised and developed bursitis from the impact
My left arm bruised the most, and the elbow was fractured

As the bruising continued to change colors and spread over my arm
My left hand and arm were badly bruised and painful to use
My right hand was also bruised and tender, especially on the side near my pinky

My temporary cast and bandages that were fitted at NextCare Urgent Care on January 29th

My cooler elbow brace, which I was fitted with at Madison Medical on February 2nd

What the parking lot looked like at 6:30pm from the sidewalk--completely dark!

I took these two photos with my iPhone camera's flash
after the concrete parking structure was removed

I have one on my bedroom wall and one in my office at Seminary

I put this collage in my Seminary office as well

On Friday, February 12th, Mike went into UNM's Outpatient Surgery and Imaging Services (OSIS) to correct his declining vision by lifting his sagging eyebrows and eyelids. Even though he bruised quite a bit, the benefits were immediate for him, and he said the experience was less painful than going to the dentist! And as a bonus, you can see his eyelashes again! They had been hidden underneath the baggy eyelids for a LONG time.

Post surgery and looking beat. Mike's eyes are swollen, bruised, and bleeding
But surprisingly, Mike was in very good spirits--just tired from the drugs
At home and resting, you can see Mike's eyelids are swollen and pinkish purple
Purple bruises are also forming above the eyelids, but check out his lashes!

Mike's eyes as they start to heal, and the stitches disappear

In this photo, Mike reminds me of Uncle Fester from the Adam's Family!

Two weeks after surgery, Mike's eyes are beginning to heal and look better
