July 29-August 4,2017: Boston Massachusetts trip

Saturday, July 29th--Sunday, July 30th: When Mike has an opportunity to attend a conference in Boston, I jump on it! It's the only chance I have to see my dear friend, Sandy Cole and her family. We were friends our senior year in high school, and we became close friends in Provo, Utah while our hubbies were going to BYU.

This is the hotel room at the Embassy Suites near the airport in Boston where we stayed. We arrived on Saturday evening and spent Sunday in Brookline, New Hampshire with Sandy and John Cole and their family. We started out the day by taking the subway and the railway train to meet Sandy. She was our Uber driver in her comfy van. She drove us to their family's ward building to attend church with them. That was fun and interesting. Afterwards, we went to their lovely home and enjoyed a yummy dinner together. Sandy served Sarku Teriyaki Chicken, a family favorite, and we loved it. I helped cut up the vegetables for the stir-fry.

Their youngest son, Nathan (pictured below), is getting ready to go to BYU-Idaho this fall, and their youngest daughter, Tracey, is going up for one semester. She is engaged to a recent convert to the church named Jake Connell. They will be married this December. These young adults were so adorable and fun to be around.

Monday, July 31st: I took the subway and the railway train to meet Sandy. By the time I'd finally see her, I'd already be sticky with sweat from the humidity--yuck. On Monday, she picked me up at the train station, and we ate Asian food and shopped at Marshall's and Ross. Mike joined us later, and we picked up some awesome burgers and fries to take to Sandy's home for dinner. There, we ate and played games with Sandy, John, Tracey, and Jake. It was a FUN night!

Tuesday, August 1st: Sandy took a bus to the Boston Airport and a shuttle to get to our hotel. Poor girl had to get up very early (3:30am) to make the bus on time! She had packed a suitcase so she could stay overnight with us at our hotel. There was a sofa hide-a-bed in our living area with a large TV on the wall where she slept. I later found out how uncomfortable that bed was!

While Mike was at the conference, Sandy and I ate breakfast at the hotel and hung out together all day. We went to the Boston Aquarium and the I-Max Theater and bought tickets for the Duck Tours for the following day. There was so much to see at the Aquarium, and it beat going outside in the hot sun. I took some photos of the more interesting animals and fishes, such as these tiny playful penguins, the freaky sea dragons, sea horses, sea turtles, and some funny faced fish. We looked around the small gift shop, where Sandy bought me some souvenirs. Back outside, we got hot and tired, so we sat in the shade of a small park near the Aquarium enjoying the breeze and the pigeons.

That evening, the three of us met John at the train station and went out to an Italian restaurant for dinner. They serve homemade pasta. It was located in "Little Italy" in the North end of of Boston, where there were lots of restaurants to choose from. We picked up pastries at one of the local bakeries afterwards. I ate so much that I felt uncomfortable the rest of the night and into the morning--blaah.

Wednesday, August 2nd: Mike skipped out of the conference to hang out with me and Sandy. We had breakfast at the hotel, then killed some time before the Duck Tour. I can't remember what we did that day, but I think we ate dinner before Sandy had to head back home on the bus. I'm probably getting all the details and days mixed up, but oh well.

Thursday, August 3rd: My last day with Sandy, she met me at a different train station and drove us to a large mall to eat lunch at The Cheesecake Factory and to do some shopping. We had fun shopping for clothes, jewelry, and kitchen utensils. She bought me a set of cute rubber spatulas like the ones she loves using at home. I will cherish them and think of her each time I use them.

Mike and I had a very early flight home on Friday, so we had to get up by 4am. I'm so glad I had this time with Sandy. Next time I hope we can include John a lot more. Check out the puffy clouds outside my window seat on our way out of Boston.

Sounds like a fun trip! I didn't know Sandy slept over at your hotel - how fun! I think Sandy and John look like brother and sister!
