August 5-11, 2019: Trip to Newport Rhode Island

When Mike found out about a work conference in Newport Rhode Island, we were pretty excited!

August 5th: When I see the ocean, my heart skips a beat!

Hotel Gurney on Goat Island in Newport RI

Our hotel room at the Gurney. I spent most of the week sitting at that desk working on my laptop so I wouldn't be behind when my new Seminary assignment started the following week.

Of course we had to find a local Thai restaurant

The busy harbor. I love cloudy days too!

The second place we ate at in Newport was a sushi restaurant

August 6th: This popular seafood restaurant was our third place to eat
It was down the road from the hotel, but it was closed on Monday

Fish tacos for Mike and fish and chips for me

August 8th: Some of the most impressive things to see in Newport are the gorgeous mansions. This adorable oriental Tea House is on the property of one of them--wow.

Mansions on the coast

I took a lot of pictures of the inside of a few mansions but decided not to blog too many of them due to the volume of photos. I'll pick a handful from each house and show them here
The rooms in the mansions are so amazingly beautiful and intricate. So much marble, gold, and art! And the grounds are huge and gorgeous too!

It took all day to tour two mansions, and we were supposed to see three of them. We never made it back for the third house. On August 9th, we checked out of our hotel in Newport and drove to Boston to see my old best friend from college. We had a great visit.

After our goodbyes, we headed to another hotel in Providence near the airport so we could make our early flight on the 10th. It was a huge room. Too bad we only had it for one night! Our Rhode Island and Boston adventures were fun, even though I spent most of my time in our hotel room working on my laptop. I loved seeing the ocean and the seagulls, touring the gorgeous mansions, seeing the beautiful Boston Temple, and visiting our dear friends, Sandy and John Cole.
