April 2014: Mexican culture day and Easter festivities

April 12th: Mike and I spent a whole day with our dear Mennonite sisters, Jennifer Ensz and her roommate, Evangeline. We had a "Mexican culture day" and enjoyed time together in the South Valley, plus downtown Albuquerque, the Uptown shopping center in the Northeast Heights, and in the Sandia Mountains!

We started the day with a breakfast of doughnuts, cookies, and milk at a Mexican bakery in the South Valley (Jess and Seb and their boys joined us); then the four of us hiked up the White Wash basin in the Sandia Foothills; afterwards, we went to Old Town and enjoyed Mexican and Spanish music and dancing on the Square; we ate a late lunch at San Felipe Mexican Restaurant in Old Town; we did some shopping at the Uptown Mall; we rested and played Canasta Caliente at the Mennonite mission home; and then we ate Mexican corn from a street cart vendor in the South Valley--it was a FUN and exhausting day!

April 20, 2014: Easter Sunday at our house included family photos, singing, eating dinner outside on the back patio, an Easter egg hunt upstairs, a birthday celebration for Joey, and FaceTime with Jared and his boys in California. We had a GREAT time!

It was impossible to get ALL the boys to smile at the same time!

Time to open birthday gifts for Joey
Sad, but I've already forgotten what Joey got. I know we gave him some stacking bowls...
April 24th: I went shopping with a friend named Patti Waseta, and we went to five different shops, including Grapevine Furniture and four indoor flea markets. This beautiful Oriental armoire caught my attention as we were leaving the store. It's a Drexel Heritage piece, and I bought it FAST for $350 plus tax--a steal for something as gorgeous, all wood, and tongue and groove construction like this!

My awesome find at Grapevine Furniture

There's also a beveled mirror on the right facing cabinet door
Ta-da! A perfect touch of Asia in the master bedroom
The front and sides are covered with beautiful Chinese carvings

I know my mother would LOVE this!
