May 3rd: We celebrated Joey's first birthday in his back yard on a lovely sunny but chilly day. Kiley chose a nautical theme with cute decorations and fun snacks. There were lots of children from the Kartchner side, plus the Dunlap family to visit with while the kids braved the cold water in the kiddie pools. We love our little Joey boy! His beautiful, gummy smile and cute personality bring happiness and joy to everyone around him.

After demolishing his birthday cupcake, Joey looks tired but was in good spirits.
He gets a LOT of love and attention from both sides of the family! |

If Joey had words, I think he'd be saying, "My hands are messy!" |

May 4th: Elise's baby blessing was held in the Sage LDS Chapel, where Jacob and Shauna attend church. It was nice to have our family together for this special day. Elise looked beautiful in the long white dress that Aunt Sharon made for her. The dress even had some antique lace on it that was part of Charlene's (Shauna's mother) wedding dress! Elise was a perfect baby in sacrament meeting and through the whole blessing that Jacob gave her.

May 14th: Our High Desert relief society combined with the Bear Canyon relief society for a service project Enrichment Night in our San Victorio Stake building. The ladies made pretty sun dresses for girls in Africa and made doll kits for children at UNM Hospital.

May 18th: We had Stake Conference today and sat with Kiley, little Joey, and Patti Waseta. We invited Patti to hang out with us after church. We ate lunch together and went for a hike in the Sandia foothills, where there were lots of pretty wildflowers in bloom along the trail.

May 20th: Jessica and I planned a fun luncheon at her home for our Mennonite "sisters" before they left Albuquerque and their last year of teaching at the Mennonite Elementary School.
Our yummy spread on Jessica's new dining table. We served green salad, fresh strawberries
and pineapple, roasted red potatoes, roasted pork loin, and lemon bars

May 24th: Mike and I hosted a family Memorial Day BBQ and invited our children and their families to come. Our friend, Patti Waseta, also joined us. There was a LOT of food! We served ribeye steaks, steamed rice, green salad, baked beans, corn on the cob, watermelon, strawberries and oranges, rice crispy treats, and fresh cherry crisp! Mike picked and pitted the cherries from our cherry tree just minutes before I made the dessert! And our salad was made from a variety of fresh lettuces growing in our garden boxes!
A beautiful lizard that Mike caught in our lower backyard
The boys were in awe when Hudson held the lizard!
I don't think the other boys were tempted...
But look at that excited, happy face on Hudon!
Lizards are SO COOL!!
