Mike has another opportunity to present papers at two conferences in Europe this month! The first one is in Budapest Hungary, a place we've never visited until now. The second conference will be in Karlsruhe Germany, where he presented two years ago.
Mike also decided to revisit the A.W.E. guys in Leeds England during this trip, so we could return to the UK again and enjoy a few days there. And to complete the trip, he added in Rome Italy so we could see the new LDS Temple and go through a session. These trips are such a fun and amazing fringe benefit for us!
June 16th: This first photo is of Mike on the plane from Albuquerque to Chicago. We switched planes in Chicago and flew to Philadelphia PA. Then our final flight took us all the way to Budapest. Thank goodness we both slept on the plane, since we arrived at 9:15am (Hungary time)--an 8 hour time difference. So it was actually only 1:15am NM time!
I took photos of our hotel, the Danubius Hotel Helia (which is close to the Danube River) and our hotel room to start things off.

The most interesting thing about our flight to Budapest was
having a group of traditional young Jewish men aboard |
They were intriguing to see and to observe,
and their clothing was very specific and peculiar |
We had fresh orange juice and shared a chocolate croissant here at the hotel |
The Danube River, hillside buildings, and rooftop sun deck
seen from our 3rd floor window |
Look at these old guys sunning themselves in their Speedos! |
These outdoor photos were taken as we walked to Margaret Bridge. We also walked around Margaret Island and over another bridge and then back to our hotel--about 4.25 miles. The parks and Japanese gardens were our favorite sites!

A closeup of the beautiful golden Margaret Bridge |
Love the spires on these Hungarian buildings |
My favorite building seen from the bridge |
Margaret Island beneath the bridge |
I bet this place comes alive at night! |
This outside pub has swings for bar stools |
These tree lined walks around the island has a mini zoo nearby! |
We saw these long, narrow canoes near the river |
Our hotel seen from the other side of the river |
Ruins from Medieval Dominican Convent and Royal Mansion |
Old church that was restored in 1930 |
Japanese garden pond with statue and Lilly pads
Those are real turtles near the statue |
The Japanese Gardens were lovely |
Is that King Triton? |
We saw this old guy carrying his canoe to the dock |
When we got back to our hotel room, we showered and were too tired to go out.
So we ordered Room Service and relaxed the rest of the night!

What a fun first day of your trip! Thanks for sharing! I enjoyed reading about princess Margaret the nun. I couldn't imagine sending Hannah off to live in a convent!
Haha! What a huge religious sacrifice for Margaret AND her mother! I'm SO GRATEFUL that I could be home with my children. I love you all so much.
