April 2016: Our drive to Mt. Juliet, Tennessee and Ft. Walton Beach, Florida

Friday, April 29th: Mike was done with the workshops early on Friday, so we packed up and drove to Mt. Juliet, Tennessee to visit my twin sister Cathy Lemmon and her family. We stayed with them for the whole weekend and forgot to take pictures of her and her family!

Cathy and Howard treated us to a country music show and dinner on Friday evening. On Saturday, Dad (George Kupski) and his wife, Mary, met us for lunch at Cheddar's. That evening, the Lemmon's took us to a local play. On Sunday, we went to church with the Lemmon's and had the Kupski's over for dinner at the house. It was a full, fun weekend!

On Saturday while riding in Cathy's car, we spotted this gorgeous rainbow in Mt. Juliet

These are the only pictures we got of Cathy (or her family)!

Isn't this rainbow AMAZING?
Monday, May 2nd: We said our good-byes and headed off to Ft. Walton Beach, Florida for a work conference for Mike and a nice little vacation for the two of us!

On one of our gas station stops along the way, I was in the restroom when my lower back and right hip suddenly shot with extreme pain. I was barely able to move! It was painful to bend and to walk, but I made it back to the car and sat uncomfortably for the rest of the drive.

When we arrived at our hotel, I had a difficult time walking or doing much of anything. I spent the rest of that day and the next stuck in bed with pain, while right outside the hotel the beautiful beach was waiting for me! With Mike's encouragement, I was determined to make myself better by doing a series of back exercises first thing each morning. The exercises were difficult to do because of the pain in my back and hip, but I pushed myself to do a little more each day. I also got out and walked on the beach the second day and did some more walking the third day.

Incredibly, I was able to move around and walk with less pain each day. That was such a blessing! I was so glad to go to the beach for at least part of our trip. Mike and I tried to make the most of it in those few short days together on the beach. We both thought Ft. Walton Beach was a great vacation spot because it wasn't overcrowded.

The Hyatt Resort Hotel where we stayed for the week was decorated in beach colors

The front of our hotel
The backside of our hotel. We could literally walk out the back door onto the white sand beach!
There was some major construction going on near the hotel as part of an expansion project--noisy too
You had to pay to rent these, so I opted to walk on the beach instead
The weather was awesome--not too hot or chilly

We saw only a couple of cranes like this one on the beach

Other resort hotels on the beach

Sea Birds or small Sea Gulls?

Sandpipers? They ran really fast and were adorable to watch

Mike's favorite part of the hotel was this awesome lazy river pool

We loved swimming in the lazy river after leaving the salty beach behind

Cool waterfalls made the lazy river even more fun

This framed picture near my bedside wall reminded us of Howard Lemmon!

This was a great vacation, which I will always remember. I got to see my step-brother Johnny; my      sister Cathy and her family; my dad and Mary; and the beach--all in one two-week trip!
