October 2-9, 2016: California Road Trip!--day 1

October 2nd: Mike had an opportunity to present a paper and attend meetings at Lawrence Livermore Labs in N. California this month. We were originally going to fly to San Francisco and rent a car to Palo Alto to visit our son Jared and his family. When Jessica expressed a desire to go, we changed our plans and decided to drive there and back--a long 16-hours one way. We took Jessica's comfortable, roomy van for the trip. Hudson and Beau were excellent the whole way and had plenty of wild energy out of the van! Hannah was also very good and happy when she wasn't too tired. Right before her nap times and bed times, she did plenty of crying and screaming--especially in her carseat! I thought we'd all go deaf during the car ride!

The boys entertained themselves with coloring and snacks during the first day of the drive
Hannah was a good sport and slept a lot on the way. She loves anything sweet, dolls, and stuffed kitties and puppies

At one of our gas station/bathroom stops, Hudson bought this fake mustache from a vending machine
He cracked me up with faces and gestures he was making. No wonder Beau and Hannah love to be around him!

Our first evening in California, we stayed at the SpringHill Suites by Marriott in Bakersfield

Tired little travelers stretching their legs and getting settled for the night

This was an awesome room for all of us, with two beds, plus a sofa bed in the small living area
Hannah and Beau enjoy watching TV on the sofa bed
Jessica still set up our pack-n-play for Hannah, so she wouldn't fall or escape at bedtime!

Hudson the artist hard at work--his new love is knights and castles!

Tired baby Hannah and sweet brother, Beau
