December 20-24, 2022: Salt Lake City trip to visit Jared's family

December 20th: Mike and I drove to Salt Lake City to spend some time with Jared, Jenny, and our grandsons Mario and Milo. It was so good to see them and to have that special time together! We spent more time with Jared and Jenny than with the boys because they still had school everyday during our visit. Jenny and Jared made our visit welcoming and comfortable and extra fun and worthwhile like they always do.

Our first night after a delicious dinner that Jenny and Jared made for us (awesome steaks, mashed potatoes, cheesy dumplings, and a lovely green salad with a fancy homemade dressing), we played a fun guessing game that Jenny picked out and snacked on cider and goodies. The rest of the week was an amazing food fest for me and Mike, going out to eat, playing games, shopping at Chinatown Market, and watching movies downstairs in their cozy basement.

Happy Milo

I loved hanging out with Jared

Giant limes? Large green grapefruit?

Dinner at Mario's favorite--Olive Garden with our SLC kids

We enjoyed the famously LARGE biscuits at this yummy restaurant, plus the rest of the food was good too!

Time to open some early Christmas gifts!

We taught Jared and Milo how to play Canasta, and they loved it! We tasted Persimmon, Pitaya, and Mangosteen that we bought at the Chinatown Market. I liked the Pitaya most because it was sweeter and tasted a lot like Kiwi.

Yummy Korean hot dogs at a Chinatown Market food stop--cheese and sausage on a stick, covered in batter and potatoes and fried to perfection. They were fun and tasty!

Milo performs in his school orchestra for the Christmas program, which was wonderful and unique. In addition to the orchestra, there was the school choir and the school band, and they included songs from different cultures.

Jenny and I sang along with others at the end of the Christmas program. We enjoyed the program, but the school band was pretty bad--although their band director was very enthusiastic!

Shopping for tools at Lowe's (to replace the boys' bathroom faucet)

Our first time trying Boba milk drinks; first you have to shake them up, then pop in the straw, and finally enjoy it--Mike wasn't so sure!

Asian chicken wings, delicious!

Love, love, love these two--even more than the chicken wings--haha

Trying out some Asai fruit cups after lunch

Game time! First up, Rummikub

Next, Wombat, which was hilarious

Ordering delicious gelato after dinner one evening

Hip atmosphere inside the gelato place

Outside the Crack Shack chicken restaurant that the boys love

December 23rd: We picked Howard and Cathy Lemmon up from the SLC Airport and treated them to a Mexican restaurant for dinner. Afterwards, we went to their eldest son Gordon's home and visited with his family and with his brother Warren and his wife Ana who were visiting from Seattle. The Lemmon's had a family reunion for the holidays from Tennessee, Washington, and Utah. And we were lucky enough to be able to see some of them during our visit!

Playing Canasta with Cathy and Howard at the Mexican restaurant

Amelia Lemmon took a liking to her "Grandma Celestine" and wanted to play with me the whole time. She and her siblings are well behaved and so sweet.

These amazingly beautiful and detailed stockings were made by Taylor Lemmon's mother.

Grandma Cathy with baby Evelyn Lemmon. She is the sweetest and happiest little girl--just not in this photo.

Happy newlyweds, Ana and Warren Lemmon

Corner of Gordon and Taylor's remodeled kitchen--so cute

Another food outing with our favorite food connoisseurs, Jared and Jenny Hobbs! Love these kids so much.

Good thing Mike and I shared this hearty breakfast plate!

At another one of Jared and Jenny's favorite restaurants--so much to try and so little time! Check out the yummy dishes below.

A fun breakfast outing with the boys at the Red Moose Cafe

Mario wasn't crazy about the vegan sausage in his extra large burrito

Jared and Mike put this 500 piece puzzle of Salt Lake City together in about 7 hours (with the help of Milo, Mario, and myself)

Gorgeous finished project

Our Christmas eve meal was simple and filling: steak, baked potatoes, and broccoli. Mike and I left Jared and Jenny's home on Christmas morning to head back to Albuquerque. We miss them and their sweet family!
