2014 Japan Trip with Jacob--Fukuoka: Day 2

On our second evening in Fukuoka, the symposium guests ate dinner at the Marine World aquarium located near our hotel. Mike, Jacob, and I had the whole aquarium to ourselves since the other symposium guests were downstairs drinking and mingling before dinner. We walked around the aquarium and checked out the awesome exhibits, including the large pool that houses the porpoises (dolphins) for the dolphin shows and the whales.

Cute little African penguins

Seeing dolphins this closeup was an amazing experience!

When I reached my hand over the top of the rim and touched this dolphin's nose,
he opened his mouth! I pulled my hand away quickly, because I wasn't sure if he
was trying to kiss my hand or to bite it off--whoops!

Large water turtles
Bright fish
Creepy octopus
My favorite--this dainty bright orange starfish
Glowing jelly fish
This sea otter was really enjoying the water
Sea otters are the cutest animals in the aquarium!
Beautiful coral and sand dollars
Funny fish

At the aquarium during dinner, we were entertained by some fun Samurai sword fighters (no photos though). Afterwards, we enjoyed the loud drums and flutes of the Wadaiko drummers. They were all young adult performers and great to watch!
